AUDITIONS

In this document Audition Scenes – Love and Information are seven audition pieces – each of them written for two people. We don’t expect you to prepare or learn any parts by heart, and the audition will be a playful and informal group session, where you might read a few different scenes with different actors. You might read several of the scenes a few times each, with some direction. The aim is for you to get to know a bit about the play,  a bit about the way we work, and for us to get to know you too. Each session will run for 1 hour.

ABOUT THE PLAY

This play is a thematically connected series of scenes that explore what it means to connect with other humans in the digital age. The rapid expansion of media technology over the last few decades means that we are more connected to each other than we have ever been, while simultaneously we find ourselves increasingly fractured and isolated. There are over 50 short scenes, which may be presented out of order, and over 100 characters, with no specifics in terms of casting.

This production seeks to assemble as diverse a cast as possible – people of all ages, abilities and performance experience are encouraged to audition. We also want to explicitly invite people with identities not normally seen on Castlemaine stages to participate.

This volunteer production is one we hope can bring people from the Mount Alexander Shire community together. We are looking for people both with and without experience in theatre, in the hope that we can build a community of participants that mirrors the rich and diverse community we live in.

Rehearsals will start in August (likely Thursday evenings & Sundays)

CREW CALL

Caryl Churchill’s Love and Information is a postmodern play, constructed through a series of fragmented vignettes loosely connected to ideas around love and human connection in an increasingly fractured digital world. There are over 50 short scenes, which may be presented out of order, and over 100 characters, with no specifics in terms of casting. It is a play that is both deeply intimate while remaining anonymous and global, reminiscent of the way we communicate on the internet. This volunteer production is one we hope can bring people from the Mt Alexander community together. We are looking for a large and diverse cast and crew to work with us on this project. We are looking for people both with and without experience in theatre, in the hope that we can build a community of participants that mirrors the rich and diverse community we live in. Crew we are looking for:

  • Lighting Operator and/or Designer
  • Sound Operator and/or Designer
  • Audiovisual Operator and/or Designer
  • Musical Director/arranger/composer (our aim is to build in original music or new arrangements, played live by a band and supported by a choir)
  • Choral director
  • Choreographer
  • Musicians and Dancers
  • Videographers & editors (this will be a mixed media production–with liveperformance blended with video)
  • Stage managers/backstage crew

If you are interested in participating as a crew member, please contact brendanamcdougall@gmail.com to say g’day.
